Momentary Inspirations

After about a week and a half of struggling to find a good logo and package design for my final project, it came to me out of no where. Last night before going to bed, I had to sketch some ideas. Immediately I came up with a simple logo that fits with everything I’d been trying to get across. After talking with my professor about it today, that was the logo he immediately was drawn to. From there, I made some quick tweeks and that led to my full package design idea. It’s amazing how you can spend so much time worrying and researching to try to find the right solution, and then when you least expect it, the inspiration just comes to you.

This semester flew by… only two weeks left. I can’t even begin to process the fact that in about 5 more months I’ll be graduating…

However, it seems for this semester I’ve lost my motivation. After last week’s insanity, I think my brain decided to shut down. I’ll be able to get everything done, but the thing I’m most worried about is my graphics final. I’m designing for a chocolate line (Timeless Treasures) and it’s proving to be more difficult than I had imagined. A large part of this is the time restraint – our last “mini” project got drawn out to four weeks, so now we’ve got two for our final. Definitely not enough time right now to process everything. I’ve finally come up with some decent logos, relating around the hourglass and time, but I’m stuck on the actual packaging design. I also don’t think it helped that my last project was coffee, so it’s more or less the same color scheme. Things are just ending up looking too similar.

Jessica Darling Series

I’ve just finished reading the first two installments of Megan McCafferty’s Jessica Darling series, Sloppy Firsts and Second Helpings. I’d been anxious to read the stories all summer, after seeing her newest installment, Perfect Fifths, at the library. It took awhile, but I finally got the books in, and I’m completely addicted. It’s a great and realistic look at high school years from the point-of-view of a smart, sarcastic girl who feels like an outsider ever since her best friend moved away. She ends up having strange and memorable encounters with reformed bad-boy Marcus Flutie, who ends up effecting her life in more ways than one. Their relationship is highly intriguing and I found myself being as fascinated by Marcus as Jessica was. As much as I enjoyed the whole story, the Marcus/Jessica storyline was the strongest factor in my addiction to the books.

I’m about to start on the third installment, where Jessica is off to college. I’ve heard the last three books are a departure from the first two, so I’m really hoping I’ll enjoy them as much. Either way, I definitely at least recommend the first two novels – some great, light reading that kept me turning page after page.
